About Us

Breadservice started as a way to put to use the overabundance of sourdough bread being produced by an obsessive-compulsive baker/stay-at-home Dad to two small kids. Having moved from Portland, Oregon to Greensboro, North Carolina with the family in 2017 and on full-time stay-at-home-dad duty, Jeff taught himself to bake naturally leavened sourdough bread with the help of the skills he gained as a professional pastry chef and kitchen manager for 20+ years. His wife Ingrid, also a restaurant and hospitality veteran, suggested he put some loaves up for sale on the NextDoor app, and within 15 minutes there was someone knocking on the door for a fresh loaf. Thus Breadservice was born, and soon thereafter in February 2018 we found ourselves with a booth at the Corner Farmers Market, introducing ourselves to the community.

We have since upgraded from four Lodge Combo Cookers to a Rofco B40, a bread-specific oven with a rabid fanbase designed for cottage bakeries like ours. We also found a home in the College Hill neighborhood where we recertified our state-inspected home kitchen as a cottage bakery. What is sometimes known as a microbakery is just that: a tiny bakery inside our home.

2020 brought the pandemic and a transition to subscription-only, COVID-safe, contactless pickup at our home. In December 2025 we rejoined the Corner Farmer's Market and now sell there on Saturdays in addition to our loyal weekly subscribers, and a handful of great wholesale accounts. Ingrid handles the business and Jeff bakes the bread.

We're eternally grateful to be baking for you out of our home, doing what we love. We hope you can taste that love in our bread.
